Diane Whalley
Contemporary abstract painter creating vibrant, intuitive works shaped by memory, movement and lived experience.
Diane Whalley is a Cornwall based contemporary abstract artist whose work is driven by intuition, memory and emotion. Originally trained in graphic design, she brings a refined sense of composition to canvases that feel spontaneous yet deeply considered.
Painting full time since 2019, Whalley works through layered mark making, gesture and colour, allowing each piece to evolve organically over days and sometimes weeks. Influenced by her move to Cornwall and time spent sailing the Mediterranean, her paintings hold a sense of movement, openness and light. Playful lines dance across structured foundations, creating vibrant visual narratives that feel both expressive and resolved.
Her work has been widely exhibited in London and across the UK, with strong interest from both collectors and interior designers who are drawn to the balance of energy and compositional clarity within her paintings.
Available Work
Whalley’s paintings sit confidently within contemporary interiors, offering colour, movement and presence without overwhelming a space. Beneath the apparent spontaneity lies a disciplined understanding of structure, scale and rhythm, shaped by her background in design.
Her work is held in private collections internationally, including France, Ireland, Italy, Switzerland, Australia, South Africa, America, Singapore, Colombia and throughout the UK.
Each painting begins with a personal reflection, memory or emotion and evolves through intuitive layering into a resolved abstract composition, inviting viewers to engage, interpret and return to it over time.
