Parastoo Ganjei
Contemporary painter exploring memory and emotion through expressive landscapes and rose still life paintings suspended between realism and abstraction.
Parastoo Ganjei is a contemporary painter based in Wiltshire. Born in Iran and the granddaughter of a celebrated Iranian artist, she grew up surrounded by the atmosphere of a working studio, where an early immersion in painting shaped her artistic path.
She is known for her evocative landscapes and elegant still life works, particularly her distinctive rose paintings. Her practice draws upon memory, heritage and imagination, combining technical sensitivity with emotional depth. Through a balance of realism and abstraction, Ganjei creates compositions that feel both intimate and expansive, inviting sustained and contemplative viewing.
Available Work
Roses are the protagonists in my painterly world. They are the driving force behind my subjectivity and the most direct way I can express my deeper feelings about life.
For me, painting roses is not about representation alone. It is about tension. I am interested in the space between the figure’s physical presence and the flatness of the surface, between realism and abstraction, between impression and expression. I want the image to hover between what is seen and what is felt.
Through this interplay, I try to translate emotion into form. The rose becomes a vessel for memory, imagination and lived experience. My aim is not to describe the world, but to convey an atmosphere that allows the viewer to pause and enter a space of reflection.
