Richard K Blades
Atmospheric painter exploring memory, land and the subtle space between landscape and abstraction.
Richard K Blades is a contemporary British painter whose work sits between landscape and abstraction. Drawing on memory and the shifting qualities of light, he creates restrained, tonal compositions that suggest open land, distant horizons and elemental space. His paintings are built through layered surfaces and considered colour, resulting in works that feel grounded, balanced and enduring.
His practice centres on distillation rather than description, offering collectors pieces that bring calm structure and depth to an interior.
Available Work
Richard K Blades is an artist, teacher and curator. He was born in Peterborough, Cambridgeshire on the 25th February 1978 and his passion for painting began whilst living in Cornwall in his mid twenties. Having grown up in East Anglia, much of his work is based on and inspired by the skies and landscapes of the area. Richard has also traveled widely, sighting these experiences as direct influences on his work. From the colours of India to the vast open skies of Canada and Australia. Along with the landscape, he is also a still life painter, fascinated by the quiet corners of studios and how light falls upon objects and plants.
Richard, who now lives and works in Cromer, North Norfolk, says of his work
“I am primarily an expressive landscape artist, painting in the English Romantic tradition.
I feel a deep connection to the landscape and the artists who also chose the sky, sea and land as their source of inspiration. Turner, Constable, Seago, Daubigney and Courbet are personal favourites of mine. The gaps of generations and hundreds of years matter little. Regardless of what has changed in this world, the technological advancements and societal shifts, the landscape is always there, as something eternal, the ever-changing muse, always present, yet never the same. ”
Richard’s work is regularly exhibited across the UK and is held in private collections, worldwide.
